In this day and age, there has been an increasing number of people prefer buying imported food to purchasing local food. This essay attempts to shed light on the reasons for this phenomenon and suggests some practical solutions that should be done to address.
First and foremost, there are several rationales as to why people opt for food from foreign coutries. The first reason is that these food are often believed to have better quality. This is because social media platforms, namely Facebook, Instagram or Tiktok, usually exaggerate about imported food’s function. For instance, the mango from America is prevalently advertised to have more than ten percent of nutrition compared to Vietnamese counterpart. Secondly, some specific products can not be produced all year round. Take cabbage in the summer as an example, it is impposible for them to be grown in the summer; as a result, people have to purchase them from other countries.
This trend can be resolved by some hands-on remedies. The paramount solution is raising people’s awareness. This could be completed by informing citizens about the negative impacts of foreign-grown products on the environment and food quality, which are air pollution due to transportation and poisoning items because of transporting and packaging. Another effective way is to introduce stricter tax on imported food. In turn, they will be much more expensive compared to the domestic one, and people would consider buying local-produced products because of their cheaper price.
In conclusion, exaggerated advertisements of imported food makes them appeal to consumers. If goverments and authorities help the population comprehend about their drawbacks and put higher taxes, this problem will be tackled.
