Peer pressure has become a subject of debate in recent years. While this decision can bring certain social advantages, the main psychological drawbacks, in my view, clearly outweigh them.
On the one hand, the one of benefits is that young people among the same age group can encourage each other good behavior. It leads to have a positive influence on them and they more deal with their works in order to reach their goal easily. For instance, they can engage in studying harder thanks to motivate each other. Therefore, this plays a crucial role in developing good dicipline. Another of benefits is that social development helps young people build relationships. Youths can develop their social skills and build strong friendship owing to social development. As a result of this, they improve their communication skills and they can communicate each other easily, as well as this prevents to mitigate their shyness feeling.
On the other hand, the one of main drawbacks is that risky or harmful behavior negatively affects their psychology mindset. Young people may engage in risky activities and they promotes other youths to develop bad habits such as smoking, drinking, and skipping school. It contributes to damaging their behavior. Consequently, youths be negatively influenced and they adopt harmful habits. In addition to this psychological disadvantages, this causes to may appear several mental health problems because pressure can lead to stress and anxiety. One clear illustration of this is fear of rejection. Young people feel under pressure due to other youths’ behavior when they do not want to do one thing which others can do it. In the result, they will suffer from anxiety as well as they will feel low self-esteem in the future.
Consequently, despite the fact that there are several benefits such as positive motivation and social development, I strongly believe that these drawbacks outweigh them such as harmful behavior and mental health problems.
