In today’s world, due to various reasons, such as financial constraints, some people, from youth to adulthood, are inclined to commit crimes. While some think that punishment should be the same for all criminals, I still believe that the types of sentences ought to differ between young and adult defendants.
Firstly, although I concede that applying same and serious punishments might deter young people from committing crimes, I still feel that it is not worth it, as they are too young to can recognize which behaviors are appropriate. For example, if young culprits were forced to spend their fine at prisons with adult, as they would be spending a considerable amount of time with these people, they might tend to model their behavior after adults, which can be harmful to society. As a result, because it is more likely for young offenders to reintegrate into the community after serving their punishment, considering different sentences for them compared to adult offenders is essential.
Finally, in my opinion, young criminals are at a critical period of their lives, making learning easier for them. So, it is vitally important that the judges to impose sentences that reflect this situation. As an illustration, adolescents, committing serious offenses, such as unintentional should participate in rehabilitation camps instead of serving their punishment in jail. This allows them to learn from their mistakes and become productive members of society when they reintegration. Consequently, it is clear that young generation play a crucial role for the country’s advancement, So if they commit a crime, instead of prison, they should be taught how to behave appropriately in society.
All of this being said, although it is undeniable that enforcing severe punishments for young criminals, similar to those for adults, may deter them from committing crimes, I still believe that there should be a different approach for young offenders. This is because not only is it plausible for them to develop negative behaviors if they spend their time with adult criminals, but also because rehabilitation camps offer a better alternative to adult punishment during this critical stage of their development.
