Overall, burglary was the most significant crime at the beginning of the period, but saw a dramatic decrease in the middle of the period,
while the two other types of crime (car theft and robbery) grew more steadily.
In 2003, burglary was the most common crime; however, in 2004, it reached its highest peak at just over 3,500, but it saw a sharp decrease to around 1,200 in 2008. Finally, after a slight rise in 2009, it leveled off and ended at about 1,000 in 2012.
In contrast, car theft showed a steady rise during the same period; despite a slight rise, it became the most popular crime in Manchester city at about 2,800 in 2012, while robbery grew more steadily and reached its highest peak at around 850 in 2005.
