It is argued that parents have significant influence over their children’s lives, including their choice of friends and life partners. Conversely, others believe that children should have the autonomy to make their own decisions. In this essay, I will examine both viewpoints and provide my personal opinion.
It is true that young people often see their parents as role models and sources of guidance regarding their future. This is primarily because they may lack sufficient experience to navigate adult life independently. In certain cases, however, it is essential for parents not to dictate every aspect of their children’s lives. For example, children may have hobbies that vastly differ from one another. On one hand, males may prefer physical sports like football, while on the other hand, females might enjoy activities like dancing. As a result, they tend to develop friendships with those who share similar interests.
Despite this, parents play a crucial role in guiding their children as they plan for their future. Young people often have limited experience when it comes to making mature life decisions. In some situations, they may choose paths based on their own capabilities, without seeking guidance from their parents. For instance, when individuals reach the age of twenty-five, they may wish to pursue romantic relationships and seek parental advice on those matters. However, they often lack the financial means to establish a household of their own. I firmly believe that children should listen to their parents’ advice wisely.
In conclusion, while children can make personal choices regarding their hobbies, they also need guidance about their future. Parents undeniably have a significant influence on their children’s lives.
