The given illustration represents the number of incidents and injuries per 100 million passenger miles travelled by transportation in 2002. The values are measured per 100 millions PMT. Overall, it can be seen that, only three categories of incidents and two categories of injuries exceeded 50 causes, with Demand Response experiencing the most significant numbers in both situation.
Demand Response had the highest level in both incidents and injuries, at approximately 250 and 175 respectively, while Commuter Rail had the lowest, with less than 30 in both categories. In addition, Bus category occupied the second place. When comparing Demand Response with Bus, it shows that the first type of transport was about 3,5 times higher in incidents and 4 times higher in injuries.
It is interesting to note that in Light Rail and Bus, the number of incidents was similar, at around 75. Furthermore, a comparison between Heavy Rail and Light Rail shows that the number of injuries was also the same, at just over 30.
