During the period from 1990 to 2005, there was a steady increase in international tourist numbers across all surveyed countries, leading to a rise from nearly 450 million to over 690 million travellers. Europe constituted the largest group of tourists, growing from 280 million in 1990 to 400 million in 2005. Meanwhile, tourists from Asia and the Pacific saw the most significant growth during this period, increasing from 60 million to over 130 million.
Although the number of international travelers from the Middle East showed a gradual increase between 1990 and 2005, it remained relatively low, reaching just 15.8 million by 2005.
