In the present day, the number of coffee shops and fast-food vendors on high streets and in town centers is at a maximum proportion. The numbers are still increasing. There are several positive and negative effects of the rising number of such outlets in our society, which are discussed in detail in this essay.

On the one hand, there are various advantages to having a maximum number of restaurants and fast-food outlets. Nowadays, most people are busy with their personal and work lives, and they do not have time to cook food for themselves. These businesses provide a variety of delicious food for those individuals as per their demand, by charging them a fee. There are different classes of people living in the same society, and not everyone can afford to order food from expensive hotels. Most lower-class citizens prefer to satisfy their appetite by ordering food from small outlets, which are generally cheaper and more affordable. For example, in my country, Nepal, many people with lower incomes prefer to eat from such vendors. Similarly, the government is also collecting tax from these businesses, and that money could be used for developmental activities.

On the other hand, there are several negative effects of the increasing number of coffee shops and fast-food vendors. Many restaurants have been found to be unhygienic, which directly affects the health of consumers. Likewise, due to the high number of fast-food vendors, there is no space for pedestrians to walk on the sidewalks. For instance, in Nepal, there are many places where shopkeepers have installed their outlets on the sidewalks, and people are forced to walk on the road, which increases the risk of accidents.

To summarize, it is necessary to have a limited number of cafes and small outlets to fulfill the demand for food. The government should take strong action to ensure that such places are run in a hygienic and systematic manner, without harming anyone.
