In recent times, the proportion of people who leave their parent’s house and chose to live alone or with friends increases. It is said that this trend contributes negative impact towards society. Along with this essay, I disagree with the statement.
I live in Indonesia, and has a Chinese ethnicity. Choosing to move out of our parents’ house is one of the most detrimental decisions in one’s life. Unlike Westerns, there’s no “moving out of your parents’ house after 18” culture. A home where you spend your childhood in retains priceless memories, which I think is a big deal. Despite the cultural norms, the act of actually leaving your parents’ house isn’t a sin or is forbidden by law. It is known worldwide that Asian parents value education more than anything. Living in a slowly developing country, my parents support me to pursue the best education the world can offer. Well, it means abroad. In return, the knowledge that I gain would contribute to the development of my country.
Job is another reason why people choose to live alone or with friends. Someone might accept a rewarding job offer that isn’t accessible in their hometown. Living with friends is a strategy to cut housing cost in this economy. In addition, you gain a helping hand, especially if the person works at the same site.
Moving out of our parents’ house doesn’t mean abandoning them. There are endless possibilities out there which in return will increase our family’s social status, economy, and contributes positively towards the surrounding community.
