In this day and age, the number of vegetarian and vegan individuals is experiencing exponential growth. In my opinion, this tendency is the combination of religious, ethical, and health-related sectors and has presented advantageous results for both plant-based eaters and the environment.
Vegan and vegetarian diets are geared to the well-being of mental and physical health. Particularly, in many religions, people strongly believe that a life without killing or injuring is the key to happiness and pureness. Besides, many individuals, who do not have any religious beliefs, disagree with the way animals are caged and killed brutally on chains without ethics. As a result, a large number of people have turned to a meat-free diet, and they are promoting this lifestyle as well as condemning the cruelty of meat industry. For example, Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time Formula One World Champion, has eliminated all animal products from his daily diet after watching the documentary What The Health. Moreover, following a plant-based diet is the best method to minimise the risks of heart diseases, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers, which are the main culprits for millions of deaths around the world.
Not only vegans and vegetarians but also the environment have benefited significantly from this tendency. Specifically, this inclination toward a meat-free lifestyle has alleviated the global obesity and cardiovascular diseases rates, raising public awareness about dietary habits and being healthy. Furthermore, with the decrease in meat needs, the scale of livestock farming could be reduced, resulting in a decline in animal waste and carbon dioxide emissions.
To conclude, the rise of non-meat lifestyles as the conbination of humanitarian and heath-related factors has enhaned global residents’ overal health and reduced the carbon dioxide emission rate all over the world. From my persepctive, the promotion of plant-based diets is necessary for the well-being and sustainability of society.
