The chart illustrates changes in the proportion of the population aged 65 over in three countries- namely, Canada, Germany and UK- over five -decade period between 1980 and 2030 including projected figures for future years.
Overall, all sources have demonstrated an upward trend since the beginning of the period. These trends are expected to continue in the future. Additionally, the figures for Canada expected to surpass that of UK in the future, despite starting the period with lower numbers than that of UK.
The most substantial growth was observed in Canada. Starting the period at 10% in the initial year, the shares rose slightly to 15% in 2000,before it estimated to see another rise to approximately 23% by the year 2030.
The remaining categories, on the other hand, experienced a bit smaller changes. While the percentage of old population in Germany grew from 15% in 1980 to minimally 20% in 2000, that of UK underwent a similar improvement from around 13% to 15% in the same period, after with they projected to climb 25% and about 18% respectively, by the final year.
