Band 8+: Some people believe that technology has brought about more problems than solutions in the modern world. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

There are a number of individuals who point out the critical problems caused by gadgets. People are debating about this issue because the impact of modern technology has not been as expected. I completely agree with this statement because teenagers’ cognitive health is declining while digital crimes and threats are increasing.

The overall well-being and mental health of young people are deteriorating due to excessive use of modern gadgets. By using devices like mobile phones and computers, young individuals engage in various activities and spend a significant amount of time in the digital world. This behavior reduces their brain’s capacity and puts them at risk of becoming marginalized in society. For example, teenagers’ comprehension and memory skills are significantly affected as they cease engaging in mentally stimulating activities such as mathematical calculations and problem-solving. Additionally, their physical health is compromised as they remain sedentary for extended periods. In essence, gadgets hinder both mental and physical activities. However, it is important to acknowledge the several advantages of modern technology, such as advancements in healthcare. These technologies have enabled the discovery of treatments for life-threatening diseases, which has greatly benefited society. Moreover, the ability to observe microorganisms and create new DNA sequences holds promise for improving human health.

The prevalence of cybercrime and digital threats is increasing rapidly. Nowadays, many people store their wealth in digital formats, such as credit cards with remote access. Unfortunately, there are hackers worldwide who illegally earn money by breaching civilians’ bank accounts. While this type of crime is on the rise, crimes involving physical cash have decreased because fewer people are using cash.

In conclusion, while technology brings advancements in healthcare, communication, and convenience, these benefits are overshadowed by the adverse effects on individuals and society at large. The rise in cybercrime, loss of privacy, and negative impact on mental health highlight the need to carefully consider technology’s overall influence on our well-being. Striking a balance between leveraging the advantages of technology and ensuring its responsible and sustainable development is crucial.
