The presented line graph delineates information about the pastimes of elderly people during leisure time in the USA. The data are compiled in percentages, according to five activities from 1980 to 2010.

It can be plainly seen in the graph that in 1980, watching TV outperformed other activities and hovered around 60%, peaking at an all-time high of nearly 70%. However, it was eclipsed by hiking, which demonstrated a meteoric fourfold increase during the considered timeframe. The share of theatre bottomed out at about 30% in 1990. Afterwards, the figures for it are reported to have slightly climbed. Moreover, reading ranked third in 1980. During the next years, the proportion for it was erratically fluctuating in the range from 20% to 60%. In stark contrast to others, surfing the Internet had a negligible fraction (merely 5%) initially but showed the largest growth and hit a record high of around 50%.

Overall, the overwhelming majority preferred hiking in their free time in 2010. Likewise, the data for theatre decreased and lagged behind other activities during the extended period.
