The chart presents a comparison of the unemployment rates among young individuals aged 15 to 24 and the entire workforce in five European nations in 2005.
In general, the percentages of young people without a job were significantly higher than the total unemployment rates in all the included nations. Poland held the top position in both categories, whereas the opposite was true in the case of Denmark.
In the 15-to-24 age group, over 35% of young people in Poland were unemployed, followed by Italy at about 27%. A small difference was observed in the youth unemployment rates in Hungary and Germany, at approximately 24%. In Denmark, the rate was only 13%, nearly half of that in Poland.
With respect to total unemployment, Poland faced the most serious issue, with slightly over a quarter of its labor force being unemployed, compared to exactly one-fifth in Germany. Denmark reported the least severe situation, with less than 10% of the population without jobs. Likewise, there existed a close similarity in the overall levels in Italy and Hungary, at 15% and roughly 13% respectively.
