Overall, the proportion of inactive people generally increased with age. In most age groups, females were more likely to avoid physical exercise than males, while the youngest group recorded the lowest inactivity levels.
In the 15-24 age group, males had the lowest percentage of inactivity at approximately 13%, compared with around 18% for females. Among adults aged 25-34, the figures rose slightly to about 18% for men and 22% for women. For those aged 35-44, both genders showed similar proportions, at nearly 28%.
The percentage of inactive males continued to increase in the 45-54 age group, reaching just over 30%, whereas the figure for females was slightly lower at around 25%. A significant difference can be seen among people aged 55-64, where male inactivity peaked at approximately 43%, compared with about 38% for females. In the 65-74 category, the proportion for males dropped to around 28%, while females accounted for roughly 30%.
Finally, among people aged 75 and over, inactivity rates reached their highest levels, at about 45% for males and nearly 58% for females
