The bar chart depicts the proportion of Australian adults, divided by age group and gender, who do not engage in physical activity.
Overall, it is clear that with increasing age a physical inactive percentage rose, except one category among older adults. Although women were less active in most age groups, in some ages, men reached a higher percentage.
Focusing on younger people, a difference was observed between genders. For instance, in the 15-24 and in the 25-34 male age groups data were consistently lower, reaching around 13% and 17% respectively, while females groups recorded approximately 18% and 22%. However, by 35-44 age females and males showed similar figures around 27%.
In terms of older adults, there were more fluctuating and rapid growth of inactivity. Regarding fluctuations, compared with the previous age group 55-64, data by group of 65-74 years old declined from around 42% to 27% by men and from approximately 38% to 30% by women. In general, age group from 45 to 75+ experienced an increase from 30% to around 42% by men and from approximately 25% to 56% by women.
