The debate over maintaining a healthy work-life balance has been a contentious issue. There is a widely held view among people that work plays the most crucial role in creating the meaning of our lifes, while other people believe that they are still thrill and lively without making great strides in their career. This essay will discuss both perspectives and I partly agree on the importance of work.
On the one hand, in order to obtain huge achievements in their career, employees frequently suffer from high pressure that worsens their lifes. It means that there are various stressors caused by a hectic workload or competition in the job market which leaves workers feeling exhausted, depressed, or overwhelmed. A typical example is Japan which had the highest number of people who wanted to kill himself due to pressure in their career in 2000, according to a report published in the New York Times. What’s more, when you give priority to your work, you may be shortage of time to enjoy your life. Instead of getting stuck behind the desk, it is necessary to pursue a hobby, explore a new country, or heal the spirit. The life will be boring if people just work day to day.
On the flip side, pursuing a career is still a major contributor of life’ meaning. Firstly, if you are unemployed, your living can be empty and purposeless. In fact, people often spend nearly all time working industriously to achieve their specific goals. For example, a doctor wants to save lives or an engineer wants to build a construction. And their general aim is to boost their income to cope with the high cost of living. Secondly, achievement in career is the common factor used to approximate an individual. That is to say, successful people are respectable and admirable because they are talented, determined, and capable of spreading positive inspiration to others. Jack Ma, for instance, is a role model for the young in the world since he overcame numerous challenges, and then became a millionaire.
In conclusion, the necessity of working can’t be denied, but it is not the only source for enjoyment in life.
