While the figure for North America was considerably lower than that of Europe (at 57.9 kg), the statistics for Asia and South and Central America were significantly lower, with respective figures being 25.8 and 23.6. The number of potatoes consumed by people living in Africa was the lowest, with a figure of 14.1 kg per person.
As for the table demonstrating the production of potatoes, Asia was the most popular producer of potatoes in all five areas examined, with a figure of 131.2 million tonnes. The number of potatoes produced in Europe in 2006 was 126.3 million tonnes, which far exceeded that of North America and Africa, with respective figures being 24.7 and 16.4. Finally, the figure for South and Central America was the lowest, with a figure of 15.6 million tonnes.
