I'd like to talk about a time when someone apologized to me. It happened last year. When I went into a coffee shop, I had just started my shift and was spotting in for a coworker. When I was taking orders, a customer came up to me and asked me to guess what kind of coffee she wanted. I was very happy to help her. And when I bumped into her table with my tray because she was on the phone, I felt really bad. After a few minutes, however, the customer came back to me. She said she'd seen my spill and was so sorry. For a moment, I felt like I should have shrugged it off and not made a big deal out of it. But at that moment, my coworker noticed the customer's apology and immediately came over. She reassured me that I was a good worker and still learning. And she said that we all make mistakes because the environment was busy and stressful. Afterwards, my manager pulled me aside and assured me that I was doing well. And that I shouldn't take the pressure of the day so seriously. This feedback gave me a confidence boost, which helped me feel more comfortable in the space. I think it's great that she was so understanding and supportive.
