There are three tables shows the population of New York City, Manhattan, and other five districts in 1800, 1900, and 2000.
In 1800, Manhattan had the largest percentage of total population in New York City, the amount was far exceed than other districts. After a hundred years, the percentage of Manhattan decreased; at the same time, the population increased in other five districts. Therefore, there were amost half of people in New York City who lived in Manhattan, another half was lived in other five districts. In 2000, the population of Manhattan had a significantly decrease, but the population of other five districts increased amost quarter as 1900.
Overall, the total population of New York City was 79,216 in 1800, at this time, most of people was lived in Manhattan districts; which was 76% of people, there was only 24% of people who lived in other five districts. After a hundred years, the total population increased to 3,437,202; at this time, the percentage of total population in Manhattan and other districts were similar, which were 54% and 46%. In 2000, the total population has exploded to 8,009,185; during this period, most of people were living in other districts than Manhattan, which was 81% of total population, also there were only 19% of people living in Manhattan.
