The maps above demonstrate the evolution of the land use of an unknown city from 1985 and 2005.
The reduction of urban green spaces is one of the major differences between 1985 and 2005. In 1985, green spaces, including parks woodlands, could be found in all four sections of the city. However, in 2005, the remained urban green spaces could only be found in the SE part of the city, with all parks in the city being rebuilt into different landuse. One of the potential reasons that woodlands can remain in the city is due to the fact that the camping site in 1985 was rebuilt into a hotel, thus keeping the woodland as a scenary attraction. The amount of residential housing shows an increase from 1985 to 2005. In 1985, housing could be found in the NE part of the city, and also SW part of city across the school. In 2005, the NE district became the district that mostly focused with residential housing, in which only houses and apartments could be found in the district. The housing across the school in 1985 was removed due to the expansion of hospital, leading it to be replaced with a larger hospital compound.
There is also an increase in industrial land use and transport facilities. In the NW district, two factories and an extra road replaced the park in 1985. The former location of bus station was replaced with an airport in the same time period. In addition, the bus station was relocated to the west of the school in the SW district in 2005.
