In today’s society, education plays a vital role in student’s life. Some individual thinks that universities should focus on preparing students for specific careers, while remaining believe that main goal of the university is to teach the general knowledge. In this essay, I will discuss about both the topics and share my perspective on it.
On the one hand, people believe that the institution should prepare the students only for the specific career they want. This is because they believe that unnecessary knowledge of something in which a student not going to pursue the career on is useless. For example, My Brother who finished computer science engineering in his collage now works as an accountant. Moreover, a survey conducted by Times Now India says that 90% of IT employees in India are from NON-IT background. Therefore, it is clear that focusing on a specific career path is more than enough
On the other hand, few people think that teaching general knowledge to students should be the primary goal of the universities. This is because they believe that general knowledge helps the students to move their day-to-day life without any problems. Moreover, general knowledge teaches the students various skills like time management and decision making. For instance, Swiss people is known for their punctuality as they were thought about time management in their school days.
After considering both the sides of the argument, I am inclined towards educating students for specific career path. I find the reason making more sense that the reason stated in teaching general knowledge to students. While there are valid points on the opposite side, I believe that the advantages in educating students in specific career path outweigh opposition.
In conclusion, even though both the arguments have its won pros and cons, I believe that educating students in specific career path will lead them to success.
