Overall, the cycle experiences four stages, starting with the evaporation from the ocean and concluding when the water from river and the ground returns to the ocean.

Firstly, water from the ocean turns into vapor due to the heat of the sun, and approximately 80% of total water vapor in air originates from the ocean. Following this, water condenses into tiny water droplets and then they forms the clouds in the atmosphere. In the next phase, when the clouds consist enough water and encounter suitable conditions, tiny water droplets combine larger and fall to the ground as rain. Water from the rain accumulates in low area on the land surface, creating lakes, rivers and streams. Meanwhile, at the highest area, the rainfall turns into snow and drop slowly to build up snow-covered mountains. In the final stage, water from the lake permeates the soil to transform into groundwater which near the shore are usually invaded by saltwater. In the meantime, snow on the mountain melts and forms a surface runoff . Ultimately, both source of water merge with the ocean and this process is repeated for a new cycle.
