Overall, it is evident that the percentage of intermediate girls who studied maths and science had minor fluctuations, while the proportion of intermediate boys declined over the years. In contrast, the percentage of advanced girls experienced a minor increase, while the percentage plummeted sharply for the advanced boys.
In 2001, 6.5% of intermediate girls enrolled for maths and science. Minor rises and falls were noticeable during 2002 to 2005 with proportions nearly 6.1%. As the years progressed, the percentage underwent minor fluctuations, before the figures levelled off at 6.0% in 2013. Besides that, the intermediate boys recorded a proportion of 6.0% in 2001; however the percentage dipped slightly to 5.0% in 2007. A further decline was evident over the years, until the percentage marked its end at 4.5% in 2012.
On the other hand, 4.0% of advanced girls enrolled for maths and science in 2001. The percentage escalated to nearly 4.4% in 2008. This growth substantially stabilised over the years until 2013, recording 4.5%. On the contrary, the percentage of advanced boys started at 3.5% in 2001 and dramatically dropped to 2.5% in the year 2013.
