The pie charts compare types and the amount of the energy generated in Spain in two separate years – 2008 and 2017.
Overall, we can clearly see, fossil fuels had the most shared energy use but they experienced a decrease in 2017. Other types of energy such as nuclear saw increases over time.
In 2008 fossil fuels had the most use of energy about 75% but in the following 9 years, we can see it plummet to almost 63%. Coal had the most use of energy in 2008 but it dramatically downturned to 17%, oil was the second energy source used in Spain too and could stay in its place with lower decrease through approximately 4% drop. Between all fossil fuels only gas succeeded to gradually grow by 1%.
Other types of energy definitely grew and surge their use in Spain. Other energy resources almost doubled from 3% in 2008 to 6% in 2017, renewable energy roughly doubled from 9% to 16%, and finally nuclear saw an upward trend from 11% to 17% in the nine-years period.
