Technology has never been expanding this drastically before. The internet was initially made for people all around the world to connect, explore topics and learn from the resources posted. Eventually it turned into something no one has ever expected, which is the social media we know now.
You can learn just about any topic you want with how much the internet offers. Let’s say one wants to learn guitar, from beginner level tutorials on how to hold the guitar to chords on every single songs you could imagine, everyone could master a skill using all the “how to”s. Online dating is strikingly popular right now with lonely people at home with only technology by their side, people are using this opportunity to reach out to eachother to connect, talk, meet and bond. Not even stopping there, thousands and millions of videos exist on how to better your life, how to talk to people, how to make fiends, how to…
But where does it stop? Because anyone can get access to others’ socials we have people being stalked, harrassed, blackmailed to death. From an innocent looking little kid to someone’s grandpa, anyone could be an online bully lurking on the internet looking for a victim. This was never meant to become a tool for predators to find victims to human traffick but it did. Even on the surface level, little kids are looking up to unreaistic beauty standards women editing their body or faces set.
Of course social media started out as this big thing that had everything you could imagine. But some people imagine harmful things and we need to protect the youth from all the mental harm that can be caused by consuming too much media to the point that their sense of self is worthless.
