The line graph compares sales of music from various mediums: downloads, streaming, CDs and vinyl between 2011 and 2018.
Overall, the figure for streaming illustrated the most significant changes and peak numbers throughout the timeline. In contrast, vinyl music was the lowest one but it saw stable increase.
From the start point, downloads and CD shared a similar trend. Both figures kicked off with roughly 2.8 and 3 billion of US dollars in 2011, but this was followed by a stable decrease, in 2014 sales of CD music reached around 1.9, whereas demand for downloaded music was 2.5 billion of dollars. In the last year, sales for both figures dropped dramatically with nearly 0.7 for CD and 1 for downloads.
However, streaming platforms were completely different. Starting off from approximately 0.8 the sales of music rose dramatically to just above 2 billion of dollars in 2015, afterwards, the number of sales for music on streaming platforms faced a notable surge to roughly 7.5 billion of dollars in 2018. The remaining media is vinyl which was the lowest one among others in this timeframe. The first year and the next five years the number of sold music in vinyl remained stable growth from 0.2 to 0.6, after which, the figure for vinyl minimally declined by 0.1 billion of dollars and maintained this trend and culminated with 0.5 billion of dollars in 2018.
