In 1985, only 4.5 million people from Japan were going abroad as tourists. This figure, however, has seen significant improvement in the next 10 years. As per the reports from 1995, the amount almost tripled – reaching 15 million. The rising trend of the Japanese people for travelling abroad has been evident in Australia’s share of Japan’s tourist market. Only 2% of the Japanese people considered flying to Australia for vacations in 1985. This number also saw a 3-fold increase over the years, reaching 6% in 1994.
