The above diagram provides information on mobile and landline phone subcriptions in four different countries between 2005 and 2015.
On the whole, it is evident that while fixed telephone subscriptions remained relatively stable, mobile phone subscriptions in India and Uruguay saw significant growth over the 10-year period.
In terms of mobile phone subscriptions, UK topped the list in 2005, at around 100 subscribers per hundred people, which rose gradually to plateau at around 120 from 2006 onwards. Uruguay on the other hand, started off at just under 50, but gradually increased over the decade, surpassing the UK by 2009 and peaked at around 170 in 2013. India exhibited a different trend as it started at a much lower base and stabilised before a dramatic climb to reach around 75 by 2015. Mobile phone subscriptions remained minimal in Eritrea throughout the period.
Looking at the graph for landline, all countries demonstrated a fairly stable trend with no significant fluctuations. UK saw the highest subscription rate, at around 55 to 60, followed by Uruguay at around 35. In contrast, Eritrea and India both had neglibile subscription rates for fixed telephone.
In conclusion, mobile phones appear to be more popular in all four countries. While some major changes are observed for mobile phone subscriptions, landline usage was stable over the 10 years.
