The result of an ever-advancing world, the recent development of digital communication has conferred employees with the opportunity of working from home. Conferring the chance to be present anywhere at any time while working, remote work offers a higher degree of freedom towards the intern while permitting them to get jobs at foreign firms. In my opinion, I consider remote work to be generally more advantageous than its corporate counterpart, offering a higher degree of freedom and opportunities towards its employees.
From an anthropological perspective, the advent of remote work provides individuals with a plethora of opportunities towards expanding their social life, removing the requirement of being present at the office. Employees could work from anywhere and withhold their own program as long as they’re fulfilling the tasks. As such, persons could pour a lot more time into their own passions or life. Throughout a study conducted by Oxford in the late 2010s, a large number of interns working from home had stated that their general lifestyle and social life had largely felt more fulfilled compared to their more restraining inquiries in standing at the office. Consequently, the ubiquitous amount of free time could be invested into going out with their friends or pursuing their passions.
Furthermore, considering the characteristic disregard for distance that internet’s development offers has been responsible for expanding the job market with a plethora of opportunities regarding working abroad. Workers now have the chance to employ themselves at any corporation around the world, operating from the very comfort of their own home. Moreover, the unending array of employment opportunities means that someone has more chances of being employed at any international firm rather than a local office. Taking into account that a large majority of companies function on different work ethics, the question of attaining certain work habits befalls more upon the individuals’ varying personalities.
In conclusion, the advent of working remotely confers a much broader repertoire of opportunities regarding the job market for the individual. This type of employment is also offering a higher degree of personal freedom in comparison to being chained into an office.
