Band 7+: Educating convicts while they are serving a prison sentence has been a matter of debate.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Many researchers argue that one of the main reasons individuals turn to a career of crime is their low level of education. As well-structured an educational system in prisons might provide better job opportunities for inmates after their release.

Despite appearing to be an irrational waste of the government’s budget, I am convinced that the rehabilitation process through education can make reintegration into society far more effective. Some individuals tend to believe that education will not be a deterrent to becoming A RECIDIVIST. Educating them may not produce desirable results, as criminals might gain knowledge or even attend counseling sessions. However, this does not guarantee that they will be law-abiding citizens in the future. The funding for education in jails is likely to be just a wasting enormous amounts of money, if even after being released, they commit crimes. This financial support for education might BE better channeled to other more vital sectors: schools and universities education, environmental protection, and healthcare. Granted, focusing only on the potential drawbacks of educating prisoners is an overly short-sighted perspective, as such an initiative can provide them with essential skills and knowledge that facilitate successful reintegration into society.

Implementing education programs for inmates is crucial, as not only does it increase their employment prospects, but also helps them reintegrate smoothly into society. When a prisoner receives proper education, they may be more likely to get stable employment after release, which deters them from returning to a criminal lifestyle. For example, prisoners should be encouraged to develop their basic literacy and numeracy skills rather than simply receive punishments. If governments neglect the importance of education, crime rates are unlikely to decline. In addition, juvenile delinquency is rising steadily, since young people are not properly guided or provided with educational support. Without access to education, they may grow up lacking moral awareness and social responsibility – which increases the risk of them becoming future offenders.

In conclusion, although some claim that education will not have favorable effects on individuals who have committed a crime, I firmly believe that providing education is inevitable if we aim to tackle the rising global crime rates. Left neglected, it may lead to an alarming rate of crime, while the government can address the root causes of criminality and prevent citizens from proper educational opportunities.
