Band 7+: In recent years, there has been a rise in the use of performance-enhancing drugs in sports. What are the consequences of doping for athletes? What measures should be taken to combat this issue?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In the last decades, there has been a growing trend towards doping. Even though this issue has several negative repercussions for sportsman`s health, as well as to sport competitions, I assert that it is governments and families who should assume the role of tackling this phenomenon.

To commence with, it is imperative to acknowledge consequences of performance enhancing substances. The most immediate impact of these drugs has to do with sports people well-being. As person exploits more and more steroids, it will probably decrease their physical health in later years. Arnold Schwarzenegger is a crystal clear example of this. He invested millions of dollars on performance enhancers, and currently suffers from a wide variety of psychological and physiological ailments such as heart failure. This, in turn, is particularly problematic for residents of third-world countries who will struggle to look after themselves in later years due to deficiency of necessary treatment. Another effect of PEDs surrounds around rules of competition. By cheating one can ruin relentless efforts, precious time another spent on attaining his excellence. As a result, this unfair competitive advantage erodes transparency and convinces people that there are shortcuts for achieving success without pushing body to its limits.

Nevertheless, combatting against abuse of anabolic agents is far from being impossible which necessitates a collaborative effort from various stakeholders, including authorities and families. Governments play an instrumental role in this battle against enhancing drugs as they have power procuring specialized equipment, advanced technology, and extensively trained personnel for detecting cheaters. Stringent anti-doping regulations and increased testing serve as a deterrent for using performance agents. On a familial level, senior family members can contribute to circumventing drug use by instilling positive values and behavior in their children, such as accepting self-discipline and dedication. They can, for instance, show real examples of embracing effort and forsake quick fixes by trying to accomplish long-term objectives. The sooner these measures are taken, the better outcomes can be achieved.

In conclusion, this trend needs a careful examination due to its multifaceted nature. Therefore, while doping can instigate suspicion to integrity of competition and decline in person`s overall well-being, governing bodies and parents can solve these problems.
