Between 2005 and 2020, average annual consumption of beauty products in the UK rose from around 75 pound to over 200 pounds. During the same period, the amount spent by British consumers on books and newspapers first declined slowly till 2015 to around 70 pounds and then shrunk sharply to just under 25 pounds.
Notably, there was almost no change in any of the three categories between 2000 and 2005. The average annual spending of UK consumers on groceries shrunk slowly from 2010 to 2020 from just over 150 pounds to around 130 pounds.
