Overall, Wales and Northern Ireland saw significant increase in the amount of cheese consumed per person in 2020 when compared to 1980. On the other hand, England and Scotland saw notable decline. Eventhough cheese consumption in England decreased over the years, it remained as the top cheese consumer throughout these period.
In 1980, an average human consumed around 12 kilograms of cheese in Northern Ireland; whereas in Wales, the number was around 45 kilograms. Both the countries saw their population preferring cheese more over the years. By 2020, mean cheese consumption per person for Wales was above 75 kilograms and for Northern Ireland it was around 60 kilograms. Northern Ireland started as the country with the lowest cheese consumption in 1980, however by 2020 it had moved up by one place by taking over Scotland.
England and Scotalnd saw a decline in cheese consumption among its population. England started out as the top consumer in 1980 with the average of around 110 kilograms per individual. Eventhough the number dropped to around 85 kilograms in 2020, it still remained the highest consumer. Scotland saw a steep increase in cheese consumption from 1980 to 1990 where it crossed the average of 100 kilograms per person. However, in the following years, less people consumed cheese causing the number to drop to less than 60 kilograms per person making it the country with lowest average consumption.
