The following diagram illustrates the production of fabric from bamboo.
Overall, the process consists of two main stages namely raw processing stage and industrial stage with nine distinct steps involved, beginning with the growth of bamboo trees and ending with the use of the bamboo fabric.
Regarding raw processing stage, firstly, bamboo trees is planted on farms on spring to utilize the ideal weather condition for the plant until they are fully grown on autumn. After that, the bamboo crops are manually harvested by farmers before being further cut into smaller strips by a saw. The former strips are then crushed to produce liquid pulp, which ends up being filtered to separate the long fibres from the mixture.
In terms of industrial stage, the collected fibres from the former step are then softened by adding water and a substance called amine oxide. Subsequently, the softened fibres are spun into circular yams, which are then further woven into fabrics. The produced fabrics are finally used for the making of everyday clothes such as shirts and socks.
