I would like to talk about the intense heat wave which is affecting Chennai right now. It is not similar to the cyclone but I feel it is a most important factor that is threatening both labour productivity and public health as well. Chennai always be a hot city but this year the temperature is relentless and it’s increasing from 38 degrees Celsius to 42 degrees Celsius with the humidity which making it more worse. As a physiotherapist I cannot escape from this temperature. I usually step out for visits and essential to buy essential products which makes me feel exhausting, fatigued and unbearable. It’s physically overwhelming for me also and I feel I usually stay with my colleagues and the patients. my patients while performing the exercise it’s very exhausting for them also to do a rehabilitation program. So it’s very hard for me also to continue the program and I life, it is not the heat wave not only affected personally for me, it is also affected the society primarily the lowering the labour productivity. Like for the outdoor persons for example, they are more prone to fatigue and grants and It’s also affecting the public health, for example, for women who are affecting with intense heat. It also affects their menstrual cycles. I think it’s no longer a future threat. The way climate changes. It’s what we are living in season by season in the cities like Chennai.
