The line graph compares wheat exports from three regions (Canada, the European Community and Australia) between 1985 and 1990.

Overall, Canada exported the largest amount of wheat for most of the period, although it was slightly overtaken by the European Community by 1990. While exports from the European Community fluctuated noticeably, Australia’s wheat exports first rose slightly and then declined steadily.

Canada recorded the highest wheat exports in 1988. Between 1986 and 1988, Canadian exports increased gradually, reaching a peak of about 25 million tonnes in 1988. Although the figure then fell sharply to just under 15 million tonnes in 1989, it recovered somewhat over the following year.

Exports from the European Community varied between approximately 14 and 21 million tonnes over the period. After a small drop in 1986, the figure climbed to around 21 million tonnes in 1988, before falling again and then rising to just over 20 million tonnes by 1990, slightly surpassing Canada. In contrast, Australia’s wheat exports rose modestly from about 15 to 16 million tonnes between 1985 and 1986, and then declined gradually, reaching almost 10 million tonnes by the end of the period.
