In terms of gender, females make up a small majority in retail, accounting for 53% of employees, compared with 47% for males. By contrast, the manufacturing industry is male-dominated, with 65% men and only 35% women.
Regarding marital status, married employees represent the majority in both sectors. However, the proportion is higher in manufacturing, where 69% of workers are married, compared with 61% in retail. Consequently, single employees account for 31% in manufacturing and 39% in retail.
Looking at age distribution, the largest group in retail is those aged 28-39, at 36%, followed by the 40-51 age group at 34%. In manufacturing, 32% of employees are aged 28-39, while 28% fall into the 40-51 category. Older workers aged 52-61 and 62+ are more common in manufacturing (25% and 8%) than in retail (14% and 4%). As a result, the average employee age is 44 years in manufacturing, compared with 40 years in retail.
