The line and table graph compare the number of international tourist arrivals in five regions between 1990 and 2020, while the latter gives information about tourism in France and Australia in 2020.
Overall, the number of international tourists increased in most regions, with Europe being the most pivotal destination. In addition, France visited far more tourists than Australia, although tourism contributed a higher percentage to Australia’s GDP.
Looking at the graph, Europe constantly attracted the highest number of visitors. In 1990, arrivals in Europe were at 400 million, with this figure rising steadily to over 1,100 million by 2020. The Asia Pacific and the Americas also underwent growth, with specific figures of approximately 150 million and 110 million in 1990. By 2020, the Asia Pacific grew significantly, with dramatic peaking at 800 million, in contrast to Africa and the Middle East, which dropped to very low levels at around 100 million.
Turning to the table, France had a larger population of 67 million and received 89.4 million tourists. In terms of income, with the figures for France’s tourist receipts reaching 60.7 billion dollars, while the sales in Australia stood at 45.1 billion dollars. However, tourism accounted for 8.6% of Australia’s economy, whereas France followed a downward trajectory of only 7.8%.
