The bar chart compares the proportion of contributions to India’s GDP in three different sectors: agricultural, industrial and services over a 40 year period, starting from 1960.
Overall, it is true that Agriculture experienced a downward trend, whereas Industry and Services witnessed an upward trend over the period shown.Additionally, Agriculture maximum proportion is replaced by Services in the final year.
To begin with, the proportion of Agriculture represented the highest at around 63% and surpassed the 2 other sectors, which only stood at about 15% and 16% respectively in 1960.After 10 years, the figure for Agriculture decreased noticeably by more than a half;in addition, there were a slight increase in the percentage of Industry and Services to reach roughly 20% and 28%.Coming to the middle of the period,Agriculture was still the biggest figure despite its decline by around 45%;moreover, Industry and Services continued to fall marginally to one quarter and nearly 30%.
However,in 1990,Services rose significantly to more than 40% as well as occupied the Agriculture’s top spot.From this time, Agriculture kept experiencing a significant drop to just three tenths whereas Industry remained unchanged.Until the end of the period,Services reached its peak to over 63% and there was a negligible fall in Industry in this year, while Agriculture had the least proportion with only over 10%.
