The bar chart compares the amount of money that major pharmaceutical companies spent on research in 2012 and in 2018, and gives a projection for 2022.
Overall, it is clear that research spending is expected to increase in all five companies over the period. Novas remains the largest investor in research throught a three-year period, while Pharm and Avicenna spend the least.
Looking first at Navas and Fleming, Navas spent only around 2 on research in 2012, and this figure rose sharply to about 16 in 2018. It is then forecast to increase dramatically to approximately 57 in 2022. In addition, Fleming research budget grew from 5 to 14, before being expected to reach 30 in 2022.
Biopharm and Avicenna followed similar upward trend, although their spending remained lower than former companies. Biopharm increased investment from about 5 in 2018, to nearly 24 by 2022. Furthermore, Avicenna spending rose from approximately 2 to 11, before being expected to reach nearly 22.
Pharm recorded the lowest levels of research expenditure. Its spendings rose from 9 in 2012 to approximately 14 in 2018, and is expected to increase to about 22 by 2022.
