Overall, Argentina remained the most expensive exporter throughout the period, whereas Bangladesh had the lowest prices. While China and India recorded increases, Argentina and Japan experienced slight declines, and Brazil remained unchanged.
In 1997, Argentina had the highest average price at £27, followed by Brazil at £22.5 and Japan at £15. China and India were lower at £10 and £7 respectively, while Bangladesh registered the lowest at £3. By 2003, Argentina’s price had decreased to £25.5, and Japan’s to £13. Brazil remained constant at £22.5.
Conversely, China’s average price rose significantly from £10 to £17, surpassing Japan to become the third-highest. The figure for India also increased from £7 to £12, remaining above Bangladesh. Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s price doubled from £3 to £6, although it remained the lowest among the six countries.
