The charts illustrate the proportion of sales of watches by watchmakers in Switzerland in 2020 and 2021.
Overall, Rolex was the most significant supplier by far in both years. Rolex also increased its dominance, while all other companies’ markets lost share.
The three biggest watch sales in the year 2020 were Rolex, Cartier and Omega, with 39.5%, 14.5% and 15.6%, respectively. However, in 2021, while Rolex has increased its share to 46.7%, the proportion of Omega has dropped by 2.3% to 12.7% and Cartier replaced Omega as the second highest rate of watch sales in 2021 at 13.8%.
The remaining three competitors had around 10% each in 2020, but then all fell by around 1% in 2021. Of the three smallest brands, Patek fell the most, dropping from 10.3% in 2020 to 8.8% in 2021. The AP brand went from the smallest sales in 2020 to the fourth sales by the year 2021.
