Band 5+: Around the world many adults are working from home, and more children are begining to study from home because technology has become cheaper and more accessible. Do you think it is possitive or negative development?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Modern innovations in electricity gadgets have become increasingly widespread and more affordable, boosting a large number of employees and students to work and study remotely, influencing people to believe that these shifts are affecting their lives negatively. However, I oppose these perspectives as computer technologies are producing its users with its profound conveniences, accessible services and several other vast advantages.

Firstly, modern innovations provide its users with its flexible services and goods such as social media, food delivery, online meeting, entertainments, … These applications can give its users what they need directly through just a touch without going through a lot of complex steps or even going out of their houses. For example, Zoom is an app allowing its users to have an online meeting without going to the company, needing only a touch to start a meeting without leaving the house. These advantages can create major changes in people’s lives as they can save time from extra steps in daily activities that now can be reduced with technology’s help, giving people flexibility in work and daily lives. Not only conveniences, computer gadgets can also bring different forms of entertainment and activities to do such as films, video games and video, comics … These activities are not only just for passing times or to entertain ourselves, it’s a tool for people to get closer to each others, spend time with people that we love. For instance, Steam is a game platform where it provides different types of game for users to play and enjoy, from multiplayer games that can bring people closer together to vast experiences that normal activities can’t provide.

Admittedly, computer technologies do have some negative effects on humans such as getting too reliant on technology and getting more inflexible, for example people who work from home get lazy and stop doing everything by themselves but using technology to do work for them. Not only that, computer gadgets can also hook people with social media, blurring boundaries between real life and social online life. Consequently, getting too reliant on social media and stuck in the world of social media can create unhealthy daily routines and physical, mental health problems such as diabetes and IAD (Internet Addiction Disorder). However, technology users can avoid these drawbacks through learning to take control over their lives, balancing their times on social media and doing physical exercises, and learning to do work by themselves without computer gadgets. These useful skills, routines are shared online by thousands of people who are also using technologies to help people who are struggling with these gadgets themselves. Therefore, computer technologies have a huge positive impact on human lives with new activities and entertainment methods, convenience services, usages and are usable to solve its problems themselves.
