Using artificial intelligence (AI) tools and application make students silly. Is it so or not? There are a lot of students who use artificial intelligence in study and some teachers don’t appreciate it. Some people think that artificial intelligence make students lazy or dependent, but it doesn’t. In this essay I’m going to explain why using AI tools does not make students silly and how these tools help students be more productive. AI can contribute positively to student learning, while teachers disallow using artificial intelligence tools.
First and foremost, AI tools enhance students’ productivity and effectiveness in their studies. AI can handle many routine tasks, allowing students to save time. Recent study found that the integration of artificial intelligence in education allows students to optimize their study routines, reduce time spent on repetitive tasks, and ultimately focus on more critical aspects of learning (Johnson & Roberts, 2022, p. 45). For instance, if a student has a lot of homework or is working on a project, he can use AI tools to reduce time with homework. If he wants to check his grammar in text, he can use some AI tools such as Grammarly or ChatGPT, but I prefer Grammarly. Grammarly checks texts or files with misspelling or mistakes. In this way, this not only saves time, but also allows students to focus on more critical learning activities. In our example it’s student’s project. Furthermore, students can use some applications that are based on AI to plan their month or even year. To illustrate this point, I want to talk about Notion. This application is based on AI and helps people to plan their days. Notion let them to organize tasks and plans. It also able to create notes and notifications. People can monitor their progress and complete homework or something else in time. Miller Davidson said that AI-powered planning tools help students manage their time more effectively by automating task prioritization and suggesting optimal schedules based on deadlines and workload (Miller Davidson, 2021, p. 58). In addition, while AI tools enhance students’ productivity and time management, they also able to help in the students’ learning experience.
Secondly, AI can enhance the learning process by providing good resources for learning. There are many learning resources that can enhance people’s learning experience. In this paragraph, I will discuss two AI-based platforms. For instance, platforms such as Coursera and Quizlet. At first, Coursera is an online learning platform that integrates AI to enhance the learning experience. There is an AI tool that helps people to study. This Chatbot can reply to students if they have any questions about specific topics. It also can recommend you courses, articles, and videos based on a student’s learning history, preferences, and performance. In my opinion, Coursera is one of the best online learning platforms that use AI in learning. Currently, I’m studying on Coursera at Google Cybersecurity Certificate and I can say that their AI tool really helps me a lot. If I have specific questions, I ask Chatbot for help. This ChatBot also can analyze students’ answers and address mistakes. Secondly, Quizlet is an online learning platform where you can learn English or other languages in an interesting way. You can use flashcards for better understanding words and play some games related to the learning the language. AI analyzes your progress and recommend you other compilations related to learning language. I used Quizlet to learn English while preparing for the SAT, and I’m really glad I found this app. Quizlet helped me to remember new words and phrases that I met and used in test. However, Quizlet doesn’t have an AI assistant in comparison to Coursera, and I think there is no need for an AI assistant. Although an AI assistant would help you, but Quizlet decided not to implement it. For example, if a student doesn’t understand anything, he could use an AI assistant for explanation words or phrases.
Moreover, students can practice with AI tools like ChatGPT. For example, if a student wants to practice, but he can’t find specific tools in internet, he can use ChatGPT. ChatGPT is able to give practice tasks for students, especially students in Information Technology. Students that work with a code can face errors and don’t understand where is cause of error. ChatGPT can consider the code and then help to find the cause of error. Many students use ChatGPT in their codes. You can think that ChatGPT is used by junior programmers, but it’s not. There many senior programmers that use ChatGPT in their routine tasks. Dongbin Xiu said that their outcomes suggest that ChatGPT can successfully program numerical algorithms in different programming language, but certain limitations and challenges exist that require further improvement of this machine learning model (Journal of Machine Learning for Modeling and Computing, Dongbin Xiu). According to the source, according to a 2023 survey conducted by Stack Overflow, almost half of developers (44%) are already using artificial intelligence tools for coding, and another 26% intend to start using them in the near future.
In conclusion, AI is expanding over the whole world and students aren’t exceptions. AI tools help students no to waste time on routine tasks and focus at main goals. On the contrary, teachers think that AI has a bad impact on students’ mind. In my opinion, a balanced approach is necessary. If students will do everything with AI, they will be dependent and lazy. However, if students will do homework and routine tasks by themselves, they will waste a lot of time. In other words, we should use AI in right way such as studying, coding, teaching, or research, and don’t forget to do something by ourselves. Elder people can disagree with us because they don’t know benefits from AI and I can understand their concerns, but they should consider new technology and try AI tools such as ChatGPT. As an active user of AI tools like ChatGPT I recommend to get all benefits from AI tools.
