Band 6+: Some people think that competition at work or school is a good thing. Others believe that we should try to cooperate more than competing with each other

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

While competition is seen as a positive phenomenon by some individuals, others find cooperation a better practice. I share both views and believe that while healthy competition is a crucial part of life and stimulate personal growth, it is cooperation that allows people to find new solutions to various problems.

On the one hand, competition is an absolutely necessary part of humans’ lives since it stimulates growth. The reason for this is that people can learn a lot from both sides of any competition – winning or losing. A good example of this is martial arts: I have been doing them since a kid, and without competing against others I would not be able to determine what mistakes I made, reflect on how to improve those, get better and to achieve high results. Thus, competition makes it possible to improve yourself since it firstly exposes your mistakes and then gives you an opportunity to work on those and come back stronger.

Meanwhile, collaborating with others is also an excellent way to get ahead in life. This is because individuals can gain more knowledge from others’ experiences. Moreover, some goals require people to cooperate in order to successfully achieve those. For instance, building any company or a big project requires a team of people to separate tasks and give each other feedback. Only by doing so individuals can achieve best results. Hence, cooperation is absolutely necessary in the modern world.

In conclusion, while people’s opinion differ on what is more constructive – competing or cooperating – I strongly believe that both phenomenon is a necessary part of humans’ lives. Both allow people learn from various situations like making mistakes or discussing a project with oth
