It has been a topic of debate whether parents are guilty of the crimes committed by their children or not. While parents hold the moral and ethical education of their children, it is unfair to punish parents for their children’s criminal activities. I believe that each individual is responsible for his or her own deeds.
It is often argued that parents are to be blamed for the crimes committed by adolescents because their actions are a result of a lack of parents’ or guardians’ attention toward the moral education of their descendants. In fact, in some recent criminal cases in America, the parents have been found guilty by the law for the crimes of their sons or daughters.
Although parents should teach their children to behave ethically and rationally in society , are they alone responsible for their children’s morality ?
Given the time children spend in schools, tuition classes and other activity classes, it can be safely said that these environments have a lasting impact on their minds and habits. Hence, we must account these factors as responsible for their criminal mentality as much as we account parenting. And as as far as punishment is concerned, I think that the adolescent who has involved in a crime must be held guilty for it. The reason is very clear, we all choose what we need to learn and adopt. As it is an individual’s decision to commit a crime, hence it should be the individual getting the punishment for it.
To sum up, although parents should make sure their children are learning the right and moral things to do, our society is equally responsible for it. Hence, in my opinion parents should not be go given the punishment of their child’s crimes.
