In the last couple of centuries, numerous languages have disappeared because society has stopped using them. Hence, there are those who believe that this phenomenon will be persistent until one common language is left, a statement I strongly agree with for numerous reasons, which will be discussed in this essay.
First and foremost, use of a global language would be quite convenient for society. This is because people spend excessive amounts of time to acquire foreign languages for personal reasons, and time is a valuable resource. However, this important resource could be diverted to do other activities that are beneficial to people and society, which would significantly increase the welfare of humankind. To give an example, in Turkey, citizens do not waste time by learning Kurdish or Arabic to talk to others. Instead, all of them speak Turkish to communicate with each other, which saves a crucial amount of time.
Besides its personal benefits, I firmly believe that this concept would contribute to world peace as well. The primary reason is that in today’s world, conflicts between countries mostly occur due to cultural differences, which are the main results of using different languages. However, speaking one global language would resolve the aforementioned problems by culturally uniting people. In South America, for instance, the official language of the states is Spanish. Consequently, there are no wars or tensions in the area due to the feeling of unity provided by using the same language among nations in the continent.
In conclusion, it is a fact that myriad languages are lost because of not being spoken by humankind anymore, which will go on until one global language prevails, according to some individuals. In my view, this assumption is correct due to its convenience and world peace it offers.
