The first bar chart provides the statistics on the number of marriages and divorces in the USA from 1970 to 2000. Also, the second one illustrates the proportion of the maritual status of adult Americans over a period of 20 years.
Overall, millions of people who got married witnessed a gradual downward trend, while the number in divorces group remained stable.
Regarding the marriages group, around 2.5 millions of people got married from 1970 to 1980. In the same period of years, the percentages of the people who never married and divorced stood at 15% and 2%. In the following ten years, the number of married population gradually decreased from 2,3 millions to 2 millions. Likewise, the divorces group also fell from about 1.2 millions to 1 millions.
In terms of the maritual status of adult Americans, the percentages of the widowed in 1970 was higher than in 2000. In contrast, the divorced rates in both 1970 and 2000 were lower than the number of marriages group.
