Band 9: The working week should be shorter and workers should hava a longer weekend

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

The amount of time spent working should be reduced, and the number of days off should be extended. I completely agree with this statement for several reasons. Primarily, shorter working weeks have been shown to increase productivity while also improving workers’ quality of life.

Research consistently demonstrates that working four days a week instead of five can lead to significant productivity gains. For example, studies have shown that workers become more focused and efficient during shorter work periods. Furthermore, having an additional day off allows individuals to rest, recharge, and engage in personal activities, which can lead to a better work-life balance and improved overall well-being.

In many countries, the standard policy is to work five days and rest for two. However, this often results in mental fatigue, decreased motivation, and reduced performance. For instance, Uzbekistan adheres to this traditional schedule across major fields such as education and industry. In contrast, countries like Hungary have implemented a four-day workweek, which has produced remarkable results. Workers in Hungary are more motivated, perform better, and have more time to spend with their families, contributing to improved mood and satisfaction.

Moreover, a reduced workweek can positively impact other aspects of life that are not directly related to work. For example, Japan is currently struggling with a critical issue: its catastrophically low birth rate. Hungary once faced a similar challenge when they followed a five-day workweek. Citizens lacked the time to focus on family life or enjoy their earnings. By implementing a shorter workweek, Hungary alleviated this problem, giving people more time to build families, pursue hobbies, and engage in social activities.

In conclusion, reducing working hours and extending days off offers numerous benefits. It enhances productivity, improves workers’ mental and physical well-being, and positively influences societal issues such as family life and population growth. A shorter workweek is a modern, practical solution to improving both workplace efficiency and overall quality of life.

The working week should be shorter and workers should hava a longer weekend

It is argued that the shorter working time and a longer weekend are beneficial for workers. While I agree that less working can help maintain a better work-life balance, I also believe that there are other drawbacks to this approach. One of the reasons why I agree with the idea of reducing the working week […]

An increasing number of cities are replacing traditional street markets with fully automated, self-service retail kiosks. Do the advantages of this shift outweigh the disadvantages?

An increasing number of cities are replacing traditional street markets with standardized, corporate-run automated retail kiosks. Although this trend can offer greater convenience and efficiency, I believe its disadvantages are more significant, particularly because it can damage local economies, reduce cultural diversity, and weaken social interaction. One major advantage of automated retail kiosks is convenience. […]
